Tonight was Law Ball night at Weldon High, but as none of us were particularly interested in going (except for a few), we all made other plans. L & J decided that they were going out for dinner to Taj Mahal, the Indian restaurant at South & Barrington, as L had organized a Law Hour talk at which D had talked about doing work in Bangladesh over the summer with her husband V, and L and her boyfriend J were taking D & V out for dinner as thanks. So the hubby and I got invited, along with other friends M & K, to what turned out to be a fantastic evening.
I'd never been to Taj Mahal before, although the hubby had with his parents when he was looking for an apartment the summer before first year. It's awesome! We all ordered a different dish and shared them around, which was the perfect thing to do. We had fish, chicken, lamb, veggies (we were going to have goat, but the chef ran out.) There was Madras, korma, biryani, everything you can think of. And tons of fluffy basmati and amazing naan. Drool.
But aside from the food, the company was great! L & the hubby have been friends since the beginning of law school, so we see her and J a lot, but we hadn't met D & V or M & K before (D & M are both second year law students, K works for the Nova Scotia Ministry of Education, and I don't think I actually heard what V does.) You know how sometimes you get eight people who don't know each other terribly well together and it's a little awkward? You don't really have a lot to say to each other and it's a little strained? Tonight, not at all! It was one of those miracle dinner parties where everyone has lots in common and lots of stories to tell. We were at the restaurant for THREE hours, and we talked and laughed the whole time. We were one of those groups that people stare at in restaurants because they spend most of the time laughing loudly and making people wonder what's so funny.
L was supposed to go to Law Ball after dinner, but I don't know how long it will go on for by the time she gets there! It was the most fun I've had at a dinner out in ages. I so love meeting new people who have cool stories to tell. Hearing D & V talk about working in Bangladesh and getting married in India last summer was so interesting, and M & K had fun stories as well. I couldn't have asked for a better substitute to going to Law Ball. So thanks L & J for having us along! Anytime you're all getting together again, hope we can come. :) Yea for awesome friends!

Agreed! Best dinner in a long time. Always fun to meet new friends too. I could eat Indian food every day for the rest of my life ...
