So, yeah, I'm done....

Yep, thesis is done. And as you can guess from the title, it was kind of anti-climactic. I zipped off a conclusion, Dean went over it, I added it to everything else I had written, and that was it. I printed off a full copy for Dr. Ross to go over today, which was kind of cool, as it was the first time I had seen it in all its 99 pages of black & white glory. But when I actually finished, all I did was change my Facebook name and go see Harry Potter. I promise that when I finish my PhD dissertation, I'll do better. There will definitely be champagne involved.

But speaking of Harry Potter: awesome. Totally riveting. I really enjoyed myself, and it was scads better than the Goblet of Fire. I think the thing that impressed me the most was how natural the relationship between Ron, Harry, and Hermione is. There is this one scene that was so touching because you could just feel how much they all really genuinely got each other, and there wasn't even really any talking. As Dean said (he was at the movie as well, with his wife Ava), that's the kind of sophisticated acting that they weren't capable of when they were younger. The new book comes out a week from Saturday, which is pretty amazing. I promised myself that I would be done the thesis before it came out so that I would have all the time I wanted to read, and I did just that, so I'm happy. I'm going to stock up on snacks on Friday, go hang out at the apartment and pack on Saturday so that I'm there when it's delivered, and then I'm going to come back, find a comfy spot, and read until I can read no more. I'm SO BLOODY EXCITED! I tell myself that I have to read them so that I know what my students are going on about, but they're really for me.

Other than that, all I'm doing right now is getting rid of the last of the furniture (selling more tonight), watching Six Feet Under (I'm on the third season now, which has started out rather crazily, and I'm very excited to see what happens), and reading The Virgin in the Garden by A.S. Byatt. I loved Possession and haven't really read anything else by her, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far, and I've only read about 150 pages. I'm looking forward to Monday, as a few friends are hosting a tall ships watching picnic at Point Pleasant Park, which should be fun. Good food, good beer, my camera, and some beautiful boats. Can't go wrong, and the weather is (finally!) supposed to be good. I'm sick of the fog, or as Kyung Jin thought I said, the frogs.

Hmm...I think I'm going to have to find a fun widget to replace my Harry one once the book comes out. I shall go on a hunt in preparation.

So, once the thesis is done, do you have a dissertation, or is that it?

Not for this degree. I'll do a dissertation for my PhD. For this one, all I have to do is get it approved by three readers. One has already, and it's in the hands of the second, so that shouldn't take too much longer. A lot of schools have you defend (answer questions from a committee), but we don't, thank goodness.
